I just learned that charity album, The Arson’s Match, has been nominated for two Blues Blast awards: Best Rock Blues Album and Best Live Blues Recording. Support me and Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance by downloading the album at: x.co/live4hope and voting here: bluesblastmagazine.com. Voting is open now and ends on August 15th.
The Backstory: I released this album for Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance in dedication to my late wife Mary Lou Bonney Karp. My goal is to raise awareness and funds for much needed ovarian cancer research and patient support programs. The song “The Turning Point” lies in the heart of the record. The funny thing about my songwriting is that very often (more than occasionally) the songs predict my future. I don’t believe in conspiracies (we’re way too stupid) or astrology or psychics. But my songs – they often give me a glimpse into what lies ahead.
Either that or they are self fulfilling lies.
“The Turning Point” was the first song that turned my head on this. Now it’s is not a literal prediction. However, it describes an overall feeling and situation that I later, found myself living through. I think that’s what makes it a good song – not because it’s about me and my shit – but because it’s about something everybody goes through, loss, regret, etc. If we’re able to hang around long enough, we all face the same things, no matter how different the experience.
It’s the common denominator beneath our feet.
